A Turkish Woman Among Groundbreaking Leaders

August 9, 2022 – Istanbul, Turkey – Bloomberg announced the 2022 Bloomberg New Economy Catalysts, a global group of visionaries, scientists, and entrepreneurs opening new doors for a more inclusive and prosperous world. Founded in 2021, the Bloomberg New Economy Catalysts bring together 28 representatives from 16 different countries. This community, composed of exceptional individuals excelling in areas such as life sciences, agriculture, and digital finance, creates a significant network to develop solutions for a more sustainable and equitable economy.

Tülin Akın became the first and only Turkish representative to join Bloomberg’s Catalysts, marking a remarkable achievement and representing Turkey on this global platform.

Stephanie Flanders, Head of Bloomberg Economics, commented on the group: “Bloomberg’s next-generation New Economy Catalysts are brilliant innovators and thinkers who transform economies and societies with bold ideas and the determination to act. The 2022 Catalysts were selected for their tangible impact and for the new achievements they can reach as a dynamic global community.”

Tülin Akın, Ashoka Social Entrepreneur in 2012, named the World’s Top Social Entrepreneur by the Schwab Foundation at the Davos World Economic Forum in 2018, and recognized in 2021 among the Meaningful Business 100, shared her thoughts on joining the Catalysts list:
“Being the first Turkish member on Bloomberg’s Catalysts list of groundbreaking leaders for a better world is, of course, very inspiring. For 18 years at Tabit, we have been showing the public, media, and most importantly family farmers in rural areas how critical smart agriculture is for a sustainable future. With the global food crisis and the risk of shortages becoming increasingly urgent, the support of prestigious global institutions is extremely valuable. Being part of this network will provide great opportunities to share insights, explore new collaborations, and accelerate digital transformation in agriculture.”

The group also includes representatives from the United States (7), India (3), Nigeria (2), and one each from Japan, China, Saudi Arabia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Canada, Ghana, and Australia.

The 28 leaders from 16 countries, including Tülin Akın, will meet at the fifth Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore in November.

Beyond building an influential network, Bloomberg New Economy also provides opportunities for companies. In 2021, three Catalysts successfully took their companies public, and two ventures reached unicorn status with billion-dollar valuations.
