Project Objective
This comprehensive project aims to reduce feed costs in the livestock sector.
Implemented Work
- Expansion of Pasture Area: The pasture area was expanded from 4 dönüm to 220 dönüm, increasing grazing space and natural feed availability for animals.
- Land Preparation: To facilitate plant growth, 1,850 hours of machinery work over 143 days were carried out. Additionally, 90 hours of soil cultivation with tractors were completed over 21 days.
- Seed Sowing: High-quality seeds with a 10-year lifespan were sown (2,500 kg) to enhance the yield and quality of forage plants.
- Infrastructure and Arrangements: The pasture was secured with fencing and safe gates. Shade structures and cooling units were installed to ensure comfortable feeding conditions for animals.
- Sustainable Use of Forage Plants: The pasture was managed with rotational grazing methods, ensuring regular grazing and optimal plant growth.
- Water Resources: Six automatic water troughs were installed to provide clean water sources for the animals.
- Community-Based Management: For the first time in Turkey, a Pasture Management Association consisting of local villagers was established, and in 2018, the management of the pasture was handed over to this association.
Results
Within four years, the pasture produced hay worth 2,300,000 TRY. This output reduced feed costs for livestock operations, strengthened their economic position, and promoted an environmentally friendly and sustainable livestock model.
